Igarot

A continent where people strive for knowledge and magical breakthroughs, wishing to spread the knowledge to the world. At least, most do.

About

Regions

Most of Igarot's land belongs to the country of Docere, with only a small portion belonging to Occultare. Docere has three towns within it, the Northwestern town of Ministro, the island town of Salus, and the Southern town of Cotego, each with their own specializations that their people tend to focus on. There are a few thick forests around their lands, but most of their lands are fairly clear and plains like, with certain parts of it well trampled by large animals, and a large portion of the Salus island being covered in farm lands. Salus island the the northern part of the main country tend to be warmer, some parts staying above 75 degrees Fahrenheit, while the lower regions can drop down to being much colder with the average being around 35 degreed. Their weather patterns are rather mild, though as many of their people are magically inclined, it's believed that any bad instances of weather are reduced or prevented altogether. Occultare's land is small and has very little greenery, bordered by the end of a forest towards Docere, quickly fading to a stony part then an almost completely frozen over area, with no visible structures of buildings on any of their land. Temperatures there are very cold, rarely getting over 35 degrees Fahrenheit for most of their land, and snowfall being very common.

History

From its earliest records, Igarot has been believed to have been the most magically advanced, with there being noted people using non-innate magic for over a thousand years, well before any notes of it in other kingdoms. Due to the lack of many of the weapon creating resources that could be found on other kingdoms, they quickly grew to strengthen their magical capabilities and become somewhat reliant on them. This reliance has become a cornerstone of their society and development, often impacting their daily life and shaping their culture. Over the years, they have played a major role in trying to spread their magical knowledge and offer opportunities to anyone who wanted to learn to at least have the chance to learn the simplest of magic, their people playing a major role in the creation of the guild G.O.M.E. in 163 AP and assisting, both physically and funding wise, with how far that they have been able to expand in the short time that they did. Of course, there have been a couple of people and groups who have disagreed with the mannerism, causing some issues in the late 190s early 200s AP, though most records of that have become hard to find, one of the few events in Docere's history that they don't go out of their way to openly provide information about something.

The People

Igarot's land mass is roughly 870 square miles, and a rather close estimation to their population, at least within Docere, is approximately 80k, though it is believed that the population of Occultare is no more than a few hundred people. Thanks to the fact that the people of Igarot tend to hold close family bonds and enjoy other people's presence, it is believed that they likely have the highest amount of people to stay in their towns out of the population that are in the continent, though there are a good many who still choose to wander the lands, typically in search of knoweldge and information. The common races found in Ingarot include the following: Elf, Half-elf, Human, Kalashtar, Vedalken, Locodon, Gnome, Eladrin, Githyanki, Githzerai, Shadar-kai, Firbolg, and Changeling. Much, much less common, and perhaps a bit controversially, Warforged and Simic Hybrids orginate and can be found here. While religion isn't frowned upon by their people, it isn't very commonly followed, those who do choose to worship the divine often opting to follow the Knowledge or Arcana domains, with rumors that those within Occultare may be worshipers of the Death domain.

Docere

Ruling Parties

Docere has no structured leadership, with each town having a pseudo-leader based on their people’s behavior and trust towards individuals, typically being taken by one that has done great feats for the town or kingdom. Some believe that those with connections with the academy and the members of G.O.M.E hold the most political power. See the specific towns for the current pseudo-leaders of each.

Current Pseudo-Leaders

Current Pseudo-leader of Salus: Anya

Current Pseudo-leader of Ministro:  Elder Lyra

Current Pseudo-leader of Cotego: Torvin

Anya, despite never purposefully going out of her way to attempt to gain any personal power or higher positions, has spent her whole life protecting her people and the nature around her, earning her the people's loyalty and trust. Lyra's position as a pseudo-leader isn't the most agreed upon, due to her only having it due to an agreement made when the royal family was demolished, but she does a good enough job protecting her people and earned approval from her people when she took in a group of refugees from Occultare. None expected grand things from Torvin after his creation only sixteen years ago, but thanks to his neutrality in most issues and his seriousness in nearly all moments, he ended up being the one who helped with any issues around, trust in him only growing even more after he ended up losing his magical capabilities to protect the people.

Economy

Those of Igarot have been built to be self-reliant for their resources, needing little from the outside world in terms of imports. They have a town whose people have fully dedicated themselves to gathering resources, especially farming, for their whole country and gathering enough to allow for it to be traded elsewhere as well.

The main thing that they do focus on having trade deals with is with other kingdoms of interest for them to offer knowledge and power for their people rather than supplies or any other imports, the main two continents in which they have connections with being Varis and Thranebet. The latter is mostly an exchange of information and knowledge, though those of Eador also often give personal trades of agricultural technologies to get magical insights. Due to there being very little places in which there are mining resources for Igarot, especially now that the lower part of the continent have been claimed by Occultare, their connection with Varis, both Aerathis and Neptaron, is the main source of certain foods, herbs, and mining resources that are otherwise unavailable. They have no low period for their economy values or trade due to being well balanced when they can trade with others and when they can supply themselves, as well as there being very little wealth disparity.

Cities

Ministro

A forest town that uses the trees around it as protection and to learn more knowledge from it, a number of their people following druidic paths. They are the town that has the most research and magical advancements within it, causing many of their structures to have some sort of magic imbued in them, both from nature and the arcane. The people in town tend to focus their days on furthering magical development, though some people choose to live more casual lifes that are postively impacted with the help of magical enhancements around.

Salus

A town fully devoted to farming and nature-based magic, with many of its people considering these lands to be the most peaceful and worry-free of them all, exepecially supported by having less land on their smaller islands where threats are likely to be lurking. Their people tend to be rather close with each other, often choosing to live in large community housing buildings and rarely having a strong sense of personal gain and belongings. Theft and fights are even more uncommon than outside threats, with sometimes even such crimes going unnoticed due to the people there trying to assume the best in others.

Cotego

A well-fortified town that has its full focus on combat-based magic and creating wards in preparation for attacks, kit out with many cannons and war-based weapons prepared to fight at all times, as well as strict guard posts set up. There are multiple people who focus purely on sharing their combat knowledge, both with physical and magical abilities, though fight among their people rarely break out apart from spars and small scuffles. There have even been a bit of an unusual development of magically enhanced weapons being created here, helping kit out any of the soldiers who need them.

Valcum (Settlement destroyed in 178)

A small settlement with only a couple of hundred living within it that was destroyed in a magical summon incident. Despite its small size, before its destruction it was a popular stop for those doing trade routes due to its central location.

Occultare

Proven Information

Due to how secluded and secretive the people of Occultare are about what happens within their city, there is very little confirmed information, and most of the information is from a group of refugees that fled from their numbers in 299 AP. This section includes the information that is widely accepted to be currently accurate about the kingdom.

Occultare only has one 'city' within it, Securum; however, it acts more akin to an underground research facility than anything else. Sources say that it is made of multiple levels that each have their own designated areas, though the ones that act as living areas are rather limited even among the smaller numbers of their people. It's believed that their people only range between 200 - 500 people in the sealed away city, and observations have shown that they almost never leave their vault. The people who lead the country seem to be mostly ones who have the strength to physically take down anyone who attempts to stand up against them, with there having been many instances of violence and hostility within them. They have become mostly self-reliant for resources, finding a way to grow their food sources on one of their floors, with meat being a rare commodity, though the sources of such meat is unknown.

Assumptions

This section highlights some of the common assumptions and beliefs of the people about what may be happening within Occultare. These assumptions are ones widely believed, and most believe to be true, but carry little to no proof behind them.

  • There is some sort of cult like following of a religion, likely following worship of those in the death domain, to help with coping for the many lives that are bound to be lost in the experiments that are taking place.
  • There have been stricter rules set into place limiting what the people may be able to share, even among themselves.
  • Many of the younger people within the kingdom are likely mutated or magically changed in some way from the experiments that have been done.
  • Information about the outside world and what happens within it is likely limited, or perhaps completely twisted to discourage anyone else from trying to flee from their town.
  • The division in those with skills in research and magic have grown even further, creating an imbalance of privelages and resources such as housing, food and water, and possibly even protection.
