Renown and You

Renown is a tiered reputation system that tracks how much a character is liked or disliked within certain groups, broken down into opinions at a guild, kingdom, and world level.

Guild Renown

What is Guild Renown?

Renown among the guilds will heavily depend on a player’s actions and direct interactions with guilds and their work. A higher renown within a guild will likely make it easier to get work from them, join their ranks, or even ask them for favors. Below is listed the current guilds and some examples of what may raise and lower your renown with them, though there are obvious renown raisers that are carried over all the guilds, such as helping them with quests or protecting their people.

Guild of Magical Expansion (G.O.M.E)

Increasing your renown with G.O.M.E is easiest for those who have magical capabilities with doing things such as assisting their schools with lessons, teaching people new spells, and expanding their knowledge, preventing any harassment both to and from magic users (they believe in equality; magic users should neither be harassing others nor being harassed for not fully relying on their physical strength).

As many of their members believe in forgiveness and leniency, thinking of life as a learning system, it isn’t as hard to lose renown with G.O.M.E as it is with other categories. Some things that may lead to them thinking of your characters less favorably would be hindering the expansion of magic and magical learning or openly harassing someone because of their magical abilities. Embark on epic quests and explore fantastical worlds with our collection of adventure games. Uncover hidden treasures, solve puzzles, and battle fearsome creatures.

Widows of the Pure (Widows)

The Widows’ opinions of people heavily rely on how they treat the world around them. This does not mean that they dislike anyone for taking needed things such as medical plants, harvesting food, or hunting to eat. They hold a higher view of those who pay proper respect to the earth when they do harvest its plants and give thanks after a hunt. Their people are the most praising to people who go out of their way to protect or help increase the number of endangered creatures or plant life, as well as those who help further the understanding of such things, where information is lacking.

The Widows of the Pure are one of the easiest guilds to get the disapproval of, as if they determine that you are recklessly taking resources without consideration to their effects on the earth, they consider you detrimental. This can include anything from sparking fires, overhunting, or killing creatures or plants whose population is lower than it should be, even without knowing so. They give little mercy to those who plead lack of knowledge about the endangerment of creatures, as they openly provide such information if requested.

The Shimmersongs

Due to their close relations and cooperation with the Jade Dragons, if you aren’t well-liked among their people, it is much harder to get renown. Otherwise, they tend to view people who assist with trade and events in the world, including those who host their own events, especially those that bring cultures from their home world.

Their leniency towards their renown going down, outside of issues with the Jade Dragons, is fairly high. They are the most understanding about cultural differences; however, openly disrespecting and being disruptive in times of events (both trade and cultural) will immediately lower their view on a person.

Jade Dragons

As it is with the Simmersongs, if you have a low reputation with them, then it will be harder to gain renown among the Jade Dragons. They praise people who show their physical strength in many ways, even when others may consider it to be an otherwise harmful way of showing off. This can include things such as picking a fight with someone strong and winning, defeating a seemingly impossible creature, or even doing something like succeeding in an assassination (though, without directly telling them, it’s hard to consider it a success if people know it was you).

Lowering their renown other than messing up with the Simmersongs is rather challenging, as the only way to really do so is to piss off one of their members or mess up one of their jobs.

Thel'sel

The Thel’sel are similar in behavior to the G.O.M.E, they favor those who help with spreading their knowledge and magic. This is specifically the magic and knowledge revolving around religion, though, depending on where you are attempting to do so, it could be considered more dangerous. Success in such lands is likely to earn more renown than doing so in easier places.

Losing renown from them is much easier than the people of G.O.M.E, as if they believe that you are purposefully disrespecting any religion, word quickly spreads, and disapproval rises. While they do have slight leniency for those who are able to convince them that they did so unintentionally, they have a process of redemption that a person much go through regardless of if it was purposeful or accidental.

Virtue’s Secrets

Those in this guild heavily favor those with physical skills as well as those who help teach others about those said skills. Although many of them tend to favor more practical jobs such as farming, smithing, and resource gatherers, those higher skilled in the arts can also prove their worth to the guild, though it is a challenge.

The most common reason to lose renown within the guild would be to do something to disrespect their people or speak ill of those without magical capabilities. The destruction of major artisan artifacts and crafts will also be heavily detrimental to their guild’s view of a person, especially if it was crafted by one of their people.

Kingdom Renown

What is Kingdom Renown?

A kingdom’s view of a person may go up based on how they assist them with quests and help their people. Common ways that renown can change are based on how characters assist with things such as defending their towns and people, resolving conflicts, any criminal actions, or siding with people they consider to be enemies. Each kingdom also has some ways that they may change their opinion on characters in more specific ways:

Aerathis

Aerathis rewards those who help show off their skills and artistic abilities, such as in artistic showcases or donating aesthetically appealing items to public displays or monuments. They also like those who side with them and assist in their war against Neptaron. Their renown will be lowered by people who side against them in their war and those who damage or attempt to steal their architecture or art.

Neptaron

Neptaron views those higher if they help protect their people in political and physical issues and those who show any sort of loyalty to their people by contributing to their security or economy. They may distrust someone if they betray their people’s trust, act against their kingdom in the war, or attempt to harm or take any of their land.

Oento

Oento’s renown can be raised by helping support their fishing or mining industries either through physical or mechanical assistance, as well as helping to solve any disputes without violence. They dislike those who overfish or cause damage to their means of getting resources, undermine their leadership, or dismiss their craftsmanship.

Nazae

Nazae is a kingdom where one can raise their renown by helping to create defenses against the creatures in their swampy lands, helping any refugees integrate into their society, and helping find diplomatic solutions to conflicts with Oento while respecting their autonomy. It can be lowered if one purposefully ignores any attempts to get help in a fight against a threat, treats Nazae as if they aren’t their own people, or hunts protected creatures on their land.

Rezia

Rezia rewards those who contribute to their agricultural of artisan advancements, help in times of natural disasters, and help with forming trade agreements that benefit their economy. Lowering their renown can be done by disturbing their industries, causing conflict among their people and council, or doing anything that may disturb the volcano while it is in its dormant state.

Thranebet

Thranebet’s renown can be raised by assisting with technological innovation or craftsmanship, aiding in rebuilding any damaged trade routes or infrastructure, and assisting with promoting their trade and goods in other kingdoms. It can be lowered by undermining trade agreements or setting them back technologically, disrespecting their leadership, or supporting monopolies that harm their economy.

Abreryn

Abreryn praises those who help with training their people in combat or defense techniques, assist refugees in establishing homes in their community, and show their strength in assisting their kingdom physically. It may be lowered by disrespecting their military presence, trying to exploit the refugees, or ignoring any warning or calls for aid in times of crisis.

Docere

Docere greatly supports those who assist in their quest to share their academic and magical knowledge and help teach their people and scholars new things. Renown is lowered from their people to those who attempt to restrict access to the knowledge they deem important, threaten their schools, and support Occultare’s knowledge-hoarding attempts.

Occultare

Occultare is the kingdom where gaining renown is the hardest to do, and losing it is the easiest. To earn their praise, helping with securing their knowledge and keeping it from being shared, and demonstrating true loyalty to them. It can be lowered through many means, such as helping share magical and academic knowledge, supporting Docere in any sense, and bringing any uninvited people to their lands.

Mish

The islands of Mish, while not their own kingdom, have one of the most unusual means of gaining and losing renown, given that they don’t relate themselves closely with the rest of the world’s opinions. Renown for them depends heavily on how one contributes to helping keep their trade routes active and safe, and may increase even more so if they are given gifts and goods they wouldn’t usually have the chance to get.

World Renown

Your renown on the world level is based on actions that are done that may affect multiple kingdoms, continents, or even the whole world. It may include things that start as only affecting a small area but eventually result in changes at a higher level in later periods, if it can be traced back to you, it may cause unexpected changes in your renown.

Infamousy

You did what?!? There are times when your actions lower the people’s opinions of you rather than raise them. This causes an infamy to your name, and causes your renown to go down in certain categories, and may cause a negative lingering thought about your character in people’s minds. Keep in mind, the people’s views on you can go down just as quickly, if not easier than it goes up.

What does renown do?

Guild Level

Guild renown measures a character's standing with individual guilds. Each guild has its values, behaviors it praises, and actions it disdains. Renown ranges from -5 to +5 for each guild:

-5 (Outcast): Actively hated or banned from the guild.

0 (Neutral): No significant relationship with the guild.

+5 (Paragon): Seen as an important person and ally, perhaps even as a hero or leader.

High renown may offer things such as access to unique quests or missions, discounts on services, training, and goods, opportunities to join the guild or get certain ranks, and access to guild-exclusive resources. Low renown will cause the opposite, loss of access of the mentioned benefits and quests, potential hostility from guild members, and possible bounties or retribution missions.

Kingdom Level

Kingdom renown is a broader measure of how well a character is regarded within a specific nation. It ranges from -10 to +10 for each kingdom:

-10 (Enemy of the State): Wanted or exiled.

0 (Stranger): No notable recognition.

+10 (Champion): Trusted advisor, hero, or national icon.

A positive renown may lead to things such as recognition and support from citizens and officials, invitations to royal courts, access to resources, political influence, easier access to quests or favors, and potential for titles, land grants, or knighthood. Negative renown may cause arrest warrants, assassination attempts, expulsion, increased difficulty in traversing or working in the kingdom, or hostile encounters with guards or locals.

World Level

World renown reflects a character's reputation across all continents. It ranges from -10 to +10:

-10 (Infamous): Feared or despised globally.

0 (Unknown): No significant recognition.

+10 (Legendary): Universally revered or celebrated.

Some effects of positive renown on the world level may be invitations to major events or councils, easier negotiation and diplomacy, easier access to rare items, information, allies, or unique global quests or rewards. Negative renown is likely to increase hostilities across cultures, difficulties with trade, alliances, and safe travel, and potential targeting by powerful actions or bounty hunters.
